While the World Sleeps

Evil plans are always made when people don't pay attention. According to Israeli intelligence this week, Iran can already make a bomb. While we frittered away our time in worthless diplomacy, Iran pushed their program forward. As if they were really concerned about world peace. Ha!

While the world believed North Korea's lies about stopping their nuclear enrichment, THEY also forged ahead on a new plant. The world in effect slept through the process. This week we have learned that they had a secret nuclear plant that will do the evil deeds we all dread. And today, they have attacked a South Korean island just for the sheer nastiness of it.

You cannot stop a rattlesnake in mid-strike and ask it to take the venom out of its fangs! You cannot explain logical, Judeo-Christian mindsets for the importance of human life to people who hate. It does not work.

For example on a smaller scale, if you want a drunk to stop driving, all the advertisements, legal penalties, and laws in the world will not stop them. They are addicted, and will drive drunk no matter what the ramifications. They have to be literally taken off the road, put through a de-tox, and their hearts/minds changed. Without that full treatment, they will continue to drive drunk. You can't reason with them. You can't scare them out of it. They don't think like the rest of us. The same applies to terrorists, communists, abusers, etc.

Telling Kim Jong Il that he's upsetting the world is ineffective, because that's his purpose. Telling Al-Qaeda that they are evil is a waste of time, since they believe the rest of us are evil. Trying to squeeze Ahmadinejad by economic sanctions on the country of Iran is a joke because he doesn't care about his people. And attempting to talk him out of his "12th Imam" mindset is an exercise in futility.

The only thing evil respects is the ability to overpower it. The only way to stop evil is to pay attention and act according to wisdom, understanding that talk- talk- talk does nothing but distract from the inevitable. Neville Chamberlain was the perfect example of that just prior to WWII. He talked his way into an agreement with Germany, even signed by Hitler. It was violated almost as soon as the ink dried.

People with evil mindsets must be dealt with in strength, not weakness. We may be about to see what complacency and worthless talk have caused.

TSA- Who's in Charge Here?

This is a copy of Erick Erickson's blog from today's RedState.com
It exemplifies some of the issues that America's "screenings" are facing. A metal detector is fine. A body scanner for people who beep that detector is ok. Putting their hand up my crotch is a different situation and they'll likely get a faceful of hand slap. But this incident tops it all.

It will be interesting to note as you read this that passengers have been walking on to flights regularly with nail clippers. I take them all the time. I have never been challenged. I was once challenged for my eyeglass screwdriver, but a long, sharp pointy thing is understandable. (They let me keep it, by the way). But this one is ludicrous. Armed soldiers carrying guns have to give up their nail clippers, but get to keep their guns. A US military charter, no less.Good grief. I hope as you read this you will see the humor of it. After all, by now we should all know that the government is messed up. It's just highly funny to see it in action.

There does need to be a change somewhere, preferably at the top. We need some folks who will remember that Israel's profiling is far more effective. We hire the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit to profile serial killers and violent criminals, but we can't profile terrorists who are serial killers? Like I said, the government is very messed up.

A friend of mine sent me this about his TSA experience. He, unlike most of us, was coming back into the country from Afghanistan on a military charter.

——–

As the Chalk Leader for my flight home from Afghanistan, I witnessed the following:

When we were on our way back from Afghanistan, we flew out of Baghram Air Field. We went through customs at BAF, full body scanners (no groping), had all of our bags searched, the whole nine yards.

Our first stop was Shannon, Ireland to refuel. After that, we had to stop at Indianapolis, Indiana to drop off about 100 folks from the Indiana National Guard. That’s where the stupid started.

First, everyone was forced to get off the plane–even though the plane wasn’t refueling again. All 330 people got off that plane, rather than let the 100 people from the ING get off. We were filed from the plane to a holding area. No vending machines, no means of escape. Only a male/female latrine.

It’s probably important to mention that we were ALL carrying weapons. Everyone was carrying an M4 Carbine (rifle) and some, like me, were also carrying an M9 pistol. Oh, and our gunners had M-240B machine guns. Of course, the weapons weren’t loaded. And we had been cleared of all ammo well before we even got to customs at Baghram, then AGAIN at customs.

The TSA personnel at the airport seriously considered making us unload all of the baggage from the SECURE cargo hold to have it reinspected. Keep in mind, this cargo had been unpacked, inspected piece by piece by U.S. Customs officials, resealed and had bomb-sniffing dogs give it a one-hour run through. After two hours of sitting in this holding area, the TSA decided not to reinspect our Cargo–just to inspect us again: Soldiers on the way home from war, who had already been inspected, reinspected and kept in a SECURE holding area for 2 hours. Ok, whatever. So we lined up to go through security AGAIN.

This is probably another good time to remind you all that all of us were carrying actual assault rifles, and some of us were also carrying pistols.

So we’re in line, going through one at a time. One of our Soldiers had his Gerber multi-tool. TSA confiscated it. Kind of ridiculous, but it gets better. A few minutes later, a guy empties his pockets and has a pair of nail clippers. Nail clippers. TSA informs the Soldier that they’re going to confiscate his nail clippers. The conversation went something like this:

TSA Guy: You can’t take those on the plane.

Soldier: What? I’ve had them since we left country.

TSA Guy: You’re not suppose to have them.

Soldier: Why?

TSA Guy: They can be used as a weapon.

Soldier: [touches butt stock of the rifle] But this actually is a weapon. And I’m allowed to take it on.

TSA Guy: Yeah but you can’t use it to take over the plane. You don’t have bullets.

Soldier: And I can take over the plane with nail clippers?

TSA Guy: [awkward silence]

Me: Dude, just give him your damn nail clippers so we can get the f**k out of here. I’ll buy you a new set.

Soldier: [hands nail clippers to TSA guy, makes it through security]

This might be a good time to remind everyone that approximately 233 people re-boarded that plane with assault rifles, pistols, and machine guns–but nothing that could have been used as a weapon

Strategic Decisions

As we end this last ridiculous session of Congress and prepare to start up a new one (guaranteed to be a huge battleground), it would be good if we stopped to reflect on a few truths before we jump into the fire.

America is supposed to be run by people that we as citizens have chosen as representatives. A true democracy should be free and equal in its government. The bad news is that when our newly elected folks get to Washington DC with their ideals and excitement, their first encounter will be the establishment.

Many years ago I spoke to Senator Jim McClure (now deceased) of Idaho while we kids were on a tour of the Capitol. He said that one of the most difficult things for the constituents to grasp is that many elected officials only appear at Congressional sessions when the cameras are turned on so they can look good. Most of the time they work from their offices. When new people come to Congress with their hearts set on change, they run up against the good ol' boys and the lobbyists who do not want change. Many have been there for eons and have so much power that they literally can stymie anything new brought up by a member.

In Christianity, we call them "strongholds." They are run by "principalities"- and are set in place by powerful critters that have been allowed free reign for a very long time. So how do we get rid of a stronghold?

You overpower it. In the natural realm, an election alone will not break a stronghold. It's a good start, but the main issue is how the newly elected folks operate. They need wisdom, they need inner strength to stand against the pressure from the WH or even their own party. There are strongholds in both parties, not just one.It will require a united front. Can they do it?

They can, but only with our help. They have to understand that this nation will not keep them in the halls of Congress if they do not accomplish the will of the people of their state. They must make strategic decisions, not just pal around with the establishment and seek power.

As citizens of America, we need to keep tabs on our elected officials. We need to make our voices known! All of the Reps and Senators have emails these days- use them to voice your opinions. Keep track of what Congress is doing, and what issues are before them. If you are silent, the chances of real forward movement are nil. If the men and women of Congress know you are watching, they will be far more likely to stand strong in the face of peer pressure.

Don't rely on the news media or your party, get information and pay attention!

Good Morning, Sunshine

At least this election I didn't wake up with a headache the next morning.
While I would some day like to see California wake up and smell the conservative roses, at least they rejected the legalization of marijuana. So there is hope.

It saddens me that Washington State can't figure out that their Senator Murray is not as much for them as she says. But then, Idaho re-elected Senator Frank Church (the epitome of liberal) numerous times because they were afraid to lose his influence in the Senate.

The electorate is often snowed by "power" because they think it will get them somewhere. Personally, I think too much power messes with the balance in government, but that's my opinion. The "power" should rest with the people of America, and Congress should be listening to us. We'll see if that begins to happen now that the Republicans have won the majority in the House.

Congrats to the new folks- and we're praying for you. You'll need it.And the great news of the morning is that Nancy Pelosi is gone from our radar. Yahoo.

I got a call yesterday from Raul Labrador's campaign in Boise Idaho. My phone talks to me before I pick up, and it said that I was receiving a call from Bo-say I.D. I resisted the temptation to laugh. The young man on the other end started to ask me if he could count on our vote for Raul- I said we already voted for him earlier in the day. His response blessed me. Excitedly he responded, "Really? Oh, thank you!"
Whoever you are, bless you for not being a recording and for showing some sort of emotion about the whole thing. This recording trend drives me up the wall. I want real people to talk to, not stupid recordings.

At any rate, we are now past that hurdle until 2012. I'm not looking forward to that nastiness. Politics has gone from ordinary nasty to ridiculous nasty in just a few short years. I'd rather just say what Sgt Friday used to say, "Just the facts." I live in hope.
